SWIMMING: Indians crush King City, Cravens wins at Herrin

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Swimming Indians dominated the King City Flippers (Mt. Vernon) 437-213 in Du Quoin last Thursday night and 10-year-old Olivia Cravens took home high point honors in the girls 9-10 group at Saturday&#39;s 14th Annual Herrin All-Stroke Invitational.

Cravens, a winner of three events against Mt. Vernon on Thursday, swam to victories in the girls 25y freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly in Herrin on Saturday. She also set a meet record in the freestyle with a time of 13.63 seconds, breaking an 11-year old mark.

Paxton Higgerson (boys 9-10 25y breaststroke), William Galik (boys 13-14 50y backstroke) and Jerry Kuhnert (boys 15-16 50y breaststroke) also won for Du Quoin at the Invitational.

Several Swimming Indians won three individual events in Thursday&#39;s meet with the Flippers. In addition to O. Cravens (girls 9-10 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke, 100m individual medley), Lauren Heape (girls 7-8 50m freestyle, 25m breaststroke, 25m butterfly), Lauren Cravens (girls 9-10 50m freestyle, 25m breaststroke, 25m butterfly), Grace Gomes (girls 15-18 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m IM), Jacob Harsy (boys 7-8 25m freestyle, 25m breaststroke, 25m butterfly), Joshua Heape (boys 9-10 50m freestyle, 25m backstroke, 25m butterfly), Nicholas King (boys 11-12 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke) and Trevor Jones (boys 13-14 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m IM) also won three times.

Addi Darnell (girls 6&un 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke), Jakob Eaton (boys 6&un 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke), Higgerson (boys 9-10 25m freestyle, 25m breaststroke), Cody Bailey (boys 13-14 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly) and J. Kuhnert (boys 15-18 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke) won two events on Thursday. J. Kuhnert also improved his own team record in the 100m IM to 1:07.98.

Quinn Kirkpatrick (girls 11-12 50m backstroke), Miranda Payne (girls 15-18 100m breaststroke), Tyler VanZandt (boys 7-8 50m freestyle), David Gomes (boys 7-8 25m backstroke), Shamar Adams (boys 9-10 100m IM) and Matthew Galik (boys 13-14 50m breaststroke) were also winners.

Team marks were also set in the girls 9-10 100m medley relay (1:20.28 by Rachel Gomes, O. Cravens, L. Cravens, Josie Bailey) and 11-12 200m freestyle relay (2:20.83 by Haley Kuhnert, Alexandria Gossman, Emily Beutow and Quinn Kirkpatrick). The 9-10 100m medley team broke a time that had stood since 1996 (1:20.47).

The boys 13-14 200m medley relay team (W. Galik, M. Galik, C. Bailey, Jones) put their names in the record books too, better the 2010 time of 2:14.78 with a 2:14.47.

The Swimming Indians have wrapped up the regular season and will next compete this Saturday at Marion in the SISL Championships.
