Wilma R. Davis

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Wilma R. Davis, 102, of Elkville, passed away at 11:40 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at her residence.

Wilma had been an elementary teacher at Burroughs, Wheatley, Evansville, Ill., Norris City and Elkville Grade School. She was the oldest member of the Elkville Christian Church. She was a member of the Jackson County Retired Teachers Association, Jackson County Farm Bureau, Jackson County Home Extension, and NEA.

She was born Nov. 15, 1908 at Carmi, Ill., the daughter of Luther and Belle (Gott) Brockett.

She married George Latty Davis on Nov. 3, 1940 at Perryville, Mo. and he preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1988.

She is survived by two sons - Jerry E. Davis and wife Linda of Du Quoin and Herbert L. Davis of Elkville, one daughter - Mary Dell Bishop and husband Clifford of Nashville, Ill., six grandchildren - Susan Heape and husband Todd of Du Quoin, Laura Cobin and husband Bryan of Du Quoin, Michael Davis and wife Christel of Elkville, Rebecca Bowen and husband Lewis of Hagerstown, Md., Allen Bishop of Murphysboro and Stephen Bishop and wife Mary Lourdes (Meryl) of Nashville, Ill., 11 great grandchildren - Dillon Heape, Alex Heape, Trey Cobin, Cole Cobin, Jessica Davis, Jeffrey Davis, Austin Lingle, Andrew Lingle, Tyler Lingle, Sean Bowen and Megan Bishop.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter - Rachel Ann Davis, and two sisters - Edna Brockett and Freda Brockett.

Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Bro. Ron Kreid officiating.

Friends called from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial was in the Elkville Cemetery at Elkville.

Friends may make memorials to TIP Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the caregivers, Lisa Hunsaker, Dianne Gunter and Kathy Reed, for their care of Wilma in the last 10 years.
