Second Exit Planned For Du Quoin K-8 School

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Du Quoin Board of Education has approved a bid proposal from Town and Country Paving to construct an asphalt play area for the elementary school and to construct a secondary parking lot exit on the east end of the K-8 School in the amount of $77,379.

The board met in special session at 5 p.m. Monday to take care of last minute staffing needs.

Early morning and afternoon cluster traffic issues at the school have existed since the school was built approximately 10 years ago. Parents have perennially asked for an improvement to the traffic pattern and relief from the bottleneck on the east side of the school.

While there is a circular traffic pattern behind the school with traffic both entering and exiting on the east side, there is no west end exit behind the school.

This was the lowest bid of a total of two bids submitted for this work.
