Cash for Cooks at Du Quoin State Fair

Now all Du Quoin State Fair leaders have to be concerned about is receiving more entries in the home show's cooking contests.

A slight exaggeration perhaps, but Danette Harbison, director of the Fair's home show and livestock departments, has extended deadlines on all cooking categories. Such as:

Fleischmann's Yeast Bake for the Cure sponsored by Fleischmanns with prizes of $150, $75 and $50.

Mystery Sack Cooking Contest sponsored by Associated Lumber Company of Du Quoin with prizes of $40, $30 and $20.

Homemade Pizza Contest sponsored by Du Quoin Chiropractic Center with gift baskets as prizes.

Churn Your Old Time Family Recipe Ice Cream sponsored by Du Quoin Ice Company with prizes of $50, $30 and $20.

Roll Your Dough for the Best State Fair Pie/Cobbler sponsored by Banterra Bank with valuable top prizes.

Cupcake Challenge sponsored by Toler's Do-It-Best with prizes of $75, $50 and $25.

Turn Your Wheels for a Best Cookie sponsored by Fare Foods with prizes of $100, $50 and $25.

"We've extended our previous deadlines until Aug. 24 hoping to add more entries," Harbison said. "Everything is pointing toward this being another great fair," Harbison added.
