The Hornets (167) were five strokes better than Trico (172), while the host Panthers finished third (184).

Nashville's Kyle Mueller was the individual medalist for the match, posting a nine-hole total of 36. Mueller was an All-South golfer for the Hornets in 2010, when he placed in the top 20 at the sectional tournament.

Leading the way for the Panthers was senior Adam Valentine with a round of 39. Kyle Brocaille and Jordan Grissom both shot 48, and Michael Siefert's 49 completed PCHS's final score of 184. Lee Wittenauer (51) and Alec Brand (52) also posted scores for Pinckneyville.

The Panthers' boys golf team returns to action, again at Red Hawk, this Friday as part of another three-team match with Du Quoin and Waltonville (3:00 p.m.).

Pinckneyville's girls team, which won the first golf regional in PCHS school history in 2010, opens their season on Thursday afternoon at Nashville (4:30 p.m.).

The Hornettes finished third at the IHSA State Finals last season and return all four of their top finishers from that event including sophomore Shawn Rennegarbe, who was ninth as an individual at state.

The Du Quoin Evening Call previews the 2011 fall golf season in August 25th's Fall Sports Preview Section.
