GOLF: Valentine, McDaniel prevail at Pine Lakes
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Panthers Adam Valentine and Heather McDaniel both won medalist honors at Pine Lakes Golf Course on Monday in a three-way match between Pinckneyville, Benton and Herrin's boys and girls teams.
The Lady Panthers also took home a win as a team, topping Herrin 185-201. Benton did not participate in the girls' match. The Rangers' boys squad, however, beat out Herrin by seven strokes (164-171). PCHS finished third with a combined total of 179.
Valentine was just one over par with his nine-hole score of 37. Michael Siefert (44), Jordan Grissom (49) and Kyle Brocaille (49) rounded out the Panthers' total. Alec Brand (50) and Lee Wittenauer (55) also took part in the event for PCHS.
McDaniel claimed her second medalist honor of the season in as many chances with a two-over par 38. Olivia Mathis (48), Brooke Heisner (48) and Britney Thomas (51) rounded out the Lady Panthers' total of 185. Sarah Carlson (55) and Claire Wittenauer (59) also posted scores.
The PCHS boys (1-6) and girls (5-2) teams will both head to Okawville on Wednesday.
<u>Indians compete at A-J</u>
On Saturday, Du Quoin was part of the 15-team Anna-Jonesboro McDonald's Team Challenge at Union County Country Club.
Marion's Jaret Brewer took home medalist honors with a one-under round of 70, Massac County slipped by A-J and Hamilton County to claim the team prize.
Du Quoin's scoring was led by Nolan Graham's 18-hole total of 93. Howard Kelly (96), Jacob Fisher (96), Bradon Woodside (99), Blair Hester (114) and Joel Vancil (125) also took part for the Indians.
