All Dist. 204 Funds Should Have Positive Balances by June 2012

The tentative 2012 budget which was placed on file Tuesday evening pro-rated general state aid to 95 percent and transportation funding to 75 percent of entitlement.

Overall, the budget shows $1,914,173 in revenue and $1,831,427 in expenses.

"Projected revenues and expenditures balance except for transportation, which shows a deficit of $26,639," said Superintendent Brent Kreid. "We will offset that with frugal spending and cash reserves."

Projections indicate all funds will have a positive balance on June 30, 2012.

There are also projected deficits in the debt service account and health/life/safety accounts, both of which will be covered by cash reserves. The debt service account repays principal and interest on bonds. The $450 deficit is for an administrative fee which will be covered by the cash reserves.

The health/life/safety funds were budgeted in case the district chooses to move forward with health/life/safety work in the coming year.

Dist. 204 has received a $245,000 Illinois Schools Energy Efficiency Grant to do health/life/safety work. The district is required to match the grant amount and has up to three years to complete the work.

Kreid said that the work on the grant began prior to his tenure at 204 School. The health/life/safety work to be done includes replacing windows in the older building, making roof repairs and work on the building facade. The board will consider the funding options over the fall and winter and should make a decision on if and when to pursue the grant work in early 2012.
