VOLLEYBALL: Area teams suffer losses on Tuesday

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[DuQuoin was overpowered at Anna-Jonesboro on Tuesday evening, losing 25-7 and 25-19.

Coach Jane Tuthill commented that A-J had two very big hitters, "but we did get our act together in the second game" she added. "The first game wasn&#39;t pretty. We will need to regroup at practice tomorrow, and go after Sparta on Thursday."

The Indians have a record of 6-6.

Megi Jones led DHS with 12 assists; she also had two aces at the serving line. Jessie Martin had 8 assists. Jessica Hirsch led in digs with 9. Keawna Anders had 9 spikes with 3 kills. Cassidy Rice had 7 spikes with 3 kills. Rebekah Maddox had 4 spikes. Tomi Hamlin (Libero) had one ace at the serving line. Cassidy Rice led in blocks with four; Maddox had one.

The DuQuoin Jr. Varsity won their match with scores of 25-21 and 25-23.

DuQuoin has their first home match on Thursday evening against Sparta. The Freshmen play at 5:30 followed by the JV at approximately 6:30, and the Varsity at about 7:30.

There is an outside chance that the matches may be played at DHS. Originally, the matches were scheduled to take place at Du Quoin Middle School, but the venue may not be decided upon until Thursday.

<u>Lady Falcons come up short</u>

Agape Christian won in three sets at Elverado High School on Tuesday, losing the first set 18-25 before coming back to win the last two 25-23, 25-10.

"We have to relax and play our game," said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley. "We are over-playing, making the easy things look hard instead of making the hard things look easy."

Erika Will led the Lady Falcons with 12 kills in the match, Rebecca Korando, Meghann Trammell and Jenny Sarensen each had 1. Korando and Trammell shared the team lead in digs with 10 each, Will and Sarensen both had 9. Kaylee Gresham led assists with 11, Erica Berner pitched in 8.

"I&#39;m not giving up on these girls," Wheatley added. "I know they can do it, I&#39;ve seen them."

The Elverado J-V team (1-6, 0-4) got into the win column for the first time, winning in three sets 22-25, 25-9, 15-9. Will&#39;s 8 kills led the way.

The Lady Falcons (1-6, 1-3) get another crack at it on Wednesday night at home, taking on Goreville. Eldorado comes calling on Thursday.

<u>PCHS falls at home</u>

Carterville knocked off Pinckneyville in straight sets on Tuesday night at Thomas Gymnasium, 25-14 and 25-18.

The Lady Panthers&#39; return to volleyball action on Thursday night at Anna-Jonesboro.
