GOLF: Lady Panthers 2nd at SIRR tournament
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Nashville remained a nemesis for the Lady Panthers golf team on Tuesday, but Pinckneyville did beat the remaining three teams at Stone Creek Golf Course in Makanda to finish second in the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division Tournament with a total of 368.
The Hornettes placed four golfers in the top ten, including top finisher Shawn Rennegarbe (76), on their way to posting a winning score of 344.
Heather McDaniel (85) led Pinckneyville and finished third overall while teammate Olivia Mathis (89) was sixth. First-year Lady Panther Sarah Carlson shot 92 and came in twelfth. Brooke Heisner's 102 rounded out PCHS's score, Alexis Anderson (105) and Claire Wittenauer (107) also participated.
Other individuals finishing in the top ten were Sparta's Kendra Kessler (2nd, 79), Carterville's Dana Kaufman (4th, 86) and Adrian Brown (5th, 87), Nashville's Madi May (6th, 89), Mollie Borowiak (6th, 89) and Natalie Johnson (9th, 90), and Anna-Jonesboro's Abby Miller (9th, 90).
Carterville finished third as a team with a 371, Sparta fourth with 396, and A-J fifth at 440.
Du Quoin sent only one golfer, Blair Hester, who shot 97 for her 18-hole round.
The Lady Panthers (26-9) are at Carterville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
<u>Panther boys shoot season-low</u>
Just four strokes separated Pinckneyville's boys golf team from a first-place finish at Red Hawk Golf Club on Tuesday, as the Panthers shot 172 to come in second of the four competing teams, losing out to Carterville (168). PCHS's Adam Valentine and Carterville's Nathan Kemp shared the medalist award, both shooting 39 for 9 holes. The win was the third medalist honor of the season for Valentine.
Kyle Brocaille (41), Patrick Kovic (46) and Lee Wittenauer (46) pitched in to help the Panthers score their best 9-hole match total of the season. Alec Brand (49) and Will Travis (51) also posted scores.
Carbondale was third at 173, Sparta fourth with a total of 190.
The Panthers travel to Carterville on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. match.
