SOFTBALL: Junior Lady Panthers win Regional
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[With a 4-0 shutout of Trico on Tuesday afternoon, Pinckneyville Junior High School (District #50) advances to this weekend's state tournament in Class M Softball.
Brooklyn Morrow shut down Trico with 13 strikeouts and allowed just two hits and a walk in going the distance for her second win of the Regional tournament held in Pinckneyville.
The star at the plate for Pinckneyville was Sydney Wright, who recorded the only two runs batted in during the game's third inning when she singled to right field to score Raygan Yates and Josie Gleason.
Gleason and Daisey Dudek walked and scored in the second inning for the other two PJHS runs when Kylee Kling beat out a wide throw to first base.
Pinckneyville had just three hits, but did draw seven walks in the contest. Wright (1-3, 2 RBI), Morrow (1-1, 2 BB) and Mariah Clark (1-3) had the hits for the Junior Lady Panthers. Also reaching base were Yates (0-2, BB, R), Gleason (0-2, BB, 2 R), Dudek (0-1, 2 BB, R) and Megan Mayo (0-2, BB). Morgan Gleason and Ashley Franklin also saw action.
The Junior Lady Panthers meet the winner of Region VII on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Greg Hale Field. Semi-finals are currently scheduled for October 4 at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
<u>PJHS baseball season comes to a close in Trico</u>
Trico was too much for the Junior Panthers baseball team in Tuesday's Region IV Class M Regional Final in Campbell Hill, advancing to this weekend's state tournament with an 8-0 win in which PJHS had only three hits.
Hunter Hicks had two of the hits for the Junior Panthers, Miles Chandler the other. Justin Bauersachs, Jackson Brand and Dylan Carns split the innings on the pitching mound for PJHS.
Trico will face the winner of Region VII on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in round one of the state tournament at the Perry County Fairgrounds in Pinckneyville.
The state tournament games will be the first of any kind played on Ridgon Field's new grass infield.
