County Board Names Agent of Record
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Perry County Board unanimously passed a resolution naming Snedeker Risk Management as the agent of record for Perry County. The recently-formed ad-hoc insurance committee (Zoning Administrator/Economic Development Coordinator Jeff Ashauer, Treasurer Bill Taylor and Commissioner Sam Robb) interviewed three candidates for agent of record before making a recommendation.
Ashauer said that all those interviewed remarked upon the short time before a bid package would need to be completed in order to accept bids for property/casualty insurance this year. The current contract expires Dec. 1.
Ashauer said there is a significant chance the county will renew their current insurance. He said the county is pleased with its current coverage and agent. The purpose of re-bidding the package would be to update the county's property list and obtain appropriate coverage for the varied properties.
In other business, the board:
placed amendments to the 2011 budget ordinance on file for public inspection. The changes include increased salaries due to raises awarded via labor contracts that were not budgeted at the beginning of the fiscal year and payments made by the Mental Health Board. Mental Health is in the habit of making their annual payments after receiving their real estate tax disbursement.
passed a resolution selling a 5.75 acre parcel of farm land to Robert G. and David C. Templeton for $25,000. The Templetons have been farming the ground for many years. The property is land-locked and only accessible from Templetons or county-owned land.
passed a resolution to close a railroad crossing on Buttercup Road. Canadian National Railroad will pay the Unit Road District $70,000 upon closing the crossing. Solid Waste Coordinator Becky Tracy said the area is used as a dump. Closing the crossing may help prevent illegal dumping in the area.
asked County Clerk Kevin Kern to contact City Commissioner Rex Duncan about the request from Comcast to change the county's cable franchise to New Wave Communications. Comcast is selling their interests in Perry and Franklin Counties. Both Counties and the municipalities therein have entered into a joint agreement not to renew their cable franchises with Comcast until the company agrees to make infrastructure improvements. A letter accompanying the package asking for the change in the current contract says New Wave plans to begin laying fiber optic cable in Perry and Franklin Counties for HD channels, high-speed internet and digital telephone service as soon as the sale is complete.
