GOLF: Valentine four strokes short at Sectional
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pinckneyville's Adam Valentine shot 84 at Monday's Sectional at Governor's Run in Carlyle, but came up four strokes shy of a berth to the State Tournament this weekend.
Breese Mater Dei's Parker Lawrence took home the first place medal with a 71 while Nashville claimed a Sectional title as a team, shooting 313 at the 18-hole event.
Hamilton County and Effingham will join the Hornets as teams advancing to this weekend's Class A State Finals at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington, IL.
Individuals who moved on include Lawrence, Nick Tannihill (73, Woodlawn), Sam Range (77, Waterloo Gibault), Jack Kane (79, Alton Marquette), Steven Becker (79, Breese Mater Dei), Tyler Jones (79, Marissa), Blake Swofford (80, Vandalia), Neal Northcott (80, Carmi White County), Austin Grote (80, Centralia Christ Our Rock), and Black Davis (80, Fairfield).
Nashville's scoring was led by John Goodrich's 76. Others participating for the Hornets were Kyle Mueller (79), Chance Rueter (78), Brock Wuebbels (80), Jordan Harre (89) and Brenden Holzhauer (83).
Valentine started on the back nine and shot 43, then followed it up with a 41 on the front.
The senior was PCHS's top golfer in 2011, winning a handful of medalist awards and placing second amongst the individuals that advanced from last week's Regional at Tamarack Golf Course. He also came in fifth overall at the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference meet on September 28.
