Flowers said it should take no more than four or five months for Sikeston, Mo.-based New Wave to upgrade the local system to high definition, improve internet speeds and offer telephone service either separately or as part of a "Triple Play" package.
Flowers told commissioner Yvonne Spencer that service will improve with attention to local broadcasting and that pricing will be comparable to Comcast's pricing. High speed internet will be offered at $49.95 and phone service will be offered for $34.95 which will include both local and long distance calling.
New Wave will also offer multi-room DVR capabilities, meaning you can start watching a program in one room and finish watching it in another.
New Wave will also keep the Du Quoin office intact as well as provide a customer care call center.
Flowers asked the council, "Any questions?"
"No, I'm thrilled," said commissioner Rex Duncan.
The council then approved a consent resolution transferring the franchise from Comcast to New Wave. The council also passed:
An ordinance amending Schedule E of the current code in reference to "No Parking" restrictions on South Madison Street, Onstott Ave., and South Peach Street-Public Display
Rescinded the condemnations on properties located at 607 E. Park Street, 547 N. Division Street, 508 S. Division Street, 27 ½ S. Ballantine Street, 515 W. Park Street, 406 W. Cole Street, 434 N. Linden Street.
