</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Coach Debbie Ritter of the DuQuoin Middle School girls basketball team was ecstatic on Wednesday evening. DMS won their first game of the season, a 27-21 victory over Pinckneyville Junior High School (District #50) in the District #204 Tournament.

DMS is now 1-5 on the season and 1-2 in the tournament.

Coach Ritter commented: "Girls were amazing tonight. They really redeemed themselves after a very poor showing at District 50 last Thursday. The things we have been telling them all season have finally started sinking in. We handled the ball very well tonight and played excellent defense."

"Nikki Ridgeway played the game of her life tonight. She was our high scorer and played great defense. My guards did a great job of being patient and waiting for the plays to develop."

"We are now awaiting the results of the Sparta vs. Chester game to find out who and when we play (Thursday). Right now we are tied for second and the tie will be broken by free throw %."

DuQuoin lead at the half 11-8 and at the end of three 15-12. PJHS tied the score at 17-17 in the closing minutes but allowed the Warriors to pull away by six.

Nikki Ridgeway led DMS in scoring with 10 points. Alaina Caldwell had 6, Andrea Morgan 5, Jaylyn Williams 4, and Sydney Lewis 2. For Pinckneyville, Morgan Gleason led the way with 8 points, Raygan Yates and Caitlin Anderson each added 4, Brooklyn Morrow and Daisy Dudek 2 and Mariah Clark 1.
