BASKETBALL: Lady Tigers go to 9-0, win #204 Tournament
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pinckneyville District #204 kept their unbeaten record in tact on Thursday night while also claiming the championship in the #204 Junior High Girls Basketball Tournament with a dominating 39-13 win over Sparta.
The Lady Tigers played suffocating defense throughout the game, holding Sparta without a single point until the third quarter, and landed four players on the All-Tournament Team.
Pinckneyville (#204) led 6-0 after the first quarter on free throws from Sophie Keith and Lindsay Taylor along with a pair of baskets by Torrie Carter. Keith then scored 14 of her game-high 17 points over the next two quarters as the Lady Tigers pulled away 15-0 at half and 31-2 by the end of the third.
Joining Keith on the All-Tournament Team were Carter, Taylor Smith and Maggie Sanders. Carter had 12 points against Sparta, Smith 7 and Sanders 2.
Other Perry County representatives honored were Du Quoin Middle School's Andrea Morgan and Pinckneyville Junior High School's Raygan Yates.
The Lady Tigers (9-0) travel to Carbondale on Saturday to meet Giant City.
<u>PJHS tops TSJ</u>
The third place teams from both the small school and large school sides of the #204 Tournament met up in Thursday's 5:15 p.m. game with Pinckneyville Junior High School knocking off Trinity St. John's (Nashville) 34-23 behind 10 points and 3 steals from Daisy Dudek.
Brooklyn Morrow added 8 points, Raygan Yates and Caitlin Anderson each had 6, Morgan Gleason 3 and Mariah Clark 1. Anderson led rebounding with 11 boards, Morrow finished with 8, Gleason 6, Clark 4, and Yates 3.
<u>Chester claims win over T-SB</u>
Tamaroa-St. Bruno met up with Chester in a battle of fourth-place teams at the #204 tournament with the Lady Indians falling 39-14.
Delany Bandy (4 points), Katie Smith (4), Emma Banach (2), Mayci Doerflien (2) and Olivia Szczepanski (2) each scored for T-SB.
