No Cause Determined in Christopher Church Fire

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[No cause has been found for a 4 a.m. Monday fire at the First Baptist Church in Christopher, according to Christopher Fire Chief Charles Lutes.

Lutes said a passerby on the way to work reported the fire. Firefighters from Du Quoin, Benton, West Frankfort, Coello and Zeigler were called in to assist at the scene. Du Quoin firefighters arrived to find heavy fire and smoke in a rear two-story classroom building. It was hard to stop the fire because of all the rooms.

The state fire marshal and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were called in to investigate.

The church, under the pastorate of Perry Musgrave, has about 25 members.
