Norman A. Norris

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Norman A. Norris, age 86, of Du Quoin, Ill., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 at 10:15 a.m. in Fair Acres Nursing Center, Du Quoin, Ill.

Norman was born on July 20, 1925 in Du Quoin, Ill., a son to Clarence and Irene (Keil) Norris. On Aug. 17, 1946, he married Louise Kunkel in Du Quoin, Ill. and she preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 1982. He then married Kathryn Valerius on May 5, 1985 in Du Quoin, Ill. and she survives. Norman was a veteran of the United States Navy, proudly serving as a Seaman 1st Class during WW II, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill. and was a coal miner for Freeman Coal, retiring after 40 years. Norman was a member of V.F.W. Post 513, Du Quoin, Ill. American Legion Post 647, Du Quoin, Ill. and the U.M.W.A. He enjoyed dancing, woodworking in his shop and loved working with his electric trains.

Norman is survived by his wife, Kathryn Norris of Du Quoin, Ill.; one son, Ronald (Cynthia) Norris of Du Quoin, Ill.; two daughters, Norma (Richard) Johnson, Du Quoin, Ill. and Phyllis (Donald) Learned of Benton, Ill.; one brother, Harold (Hellen) Norris of Alabama; five grandchildren, Tammy, Kurt, Dianna, Jeremy, Thresa and Amanda; four great-grandchildren; two step children, Ed (Jinx) Fish of Centralia, Ill. and Jo (Bill) Howard of Aurora, Ill.; five step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Nick Junker officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park, Du Quoin, Ill.

Friends called at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, Ill. on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

Military rites were provided by V. F. W. Post 513 and American Legion Post 647, Du Quoin, Ill.
