William Martin

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[William "Bill" Martin, age 80, of Joppa, Md., originally from Du Quoin, Ill., passed away on Dec. 11, 2011 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Md.

Born in Du Quoin, Ill., he was the son of Helen Hattie Poiter Martin of Du Quoin, Ill. and the late Harry Leo Martin. He graduated in 1949 from Du Quoin High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked for CSX Railroad for 42 years as a computer operator in the Car Location Info Center. A member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Joppatowne, he enjoyed calligraphy, working with stained glass and sports, especially baseball.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mildred L. Martin of Joppa, Md.; sons, Paul Martin and wife, Beth, of Bel Air, Md. and Steve Martin and wife, Tracy, of Forest Hill, Md.; brother, Paul Dean Martin of Buffalo, N.Y.; sister, Delores "Sis" Whitson of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, John, Jake, Amy, Kristen, Aaron and Alexandra and great-grandchildren, Evelyn Bell and Joe-Joe.

Visitation was held at McComas Funeral Home, P.A. in Abingdon, Md. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Joppa, Md. on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Joseph C. Simmons officiating. Interment was at Harford Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, Md.
