The Franklin County Sheriff's Department says Delena Sue Ramsey was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla southbound on Rt. 148 between Christopher and Sesser when her car was struck in the side by a 2002 Ford Escape driven by Samantha Seiler, 20, of Cambria. Seiler was westbound on Park Street Road.

Seiler and her 10-month-old infant-who was fully secured in a child restraint seat-were taken to Franklin Hospital in Benton where they were treated for minor injuries. Ramsey had to be extricated from her vehicle and was also transported by Cardinal Ambulance Service to the hospital where she later died.

The sheriff's department plans to file charges against Seiler that include aggravated driving under the influence, illegal possession of a controlled substance and illegal possession of marijuana more than 30 grams but less than 500 grams and endangering the life of a child.

Both vehicles received major damage. The intersection was blocked for more than an hour.

Assisting the sheriff's department were Illinois State Police from the District 13 command in Du Quoin, the Cardinal Emergency Management ambulance service, Sesser and Valier firefighters and a Christopher city police officer.
