The accident happened at 2:23 p.m. just south of the Kimmel Road turnoff.
The Illinois State Police District 13 command in Du Quoin says Brian Hill, 66, of Tamaroa was southbound on Rt.51 in his Dodge Ram pickup truck when he lost control of his vehicle, swerved into the northbound lane and struck a late model Toyota Camry driven by Carolyn Ridgeway, 64, of Du Quoin.
Hill's truck came to rest in the ditch below the Canadian National railroad tracks and he had to be extricated. He was taken by the Pinckneyville Ambulance Service to Marshall Browning Hospital. Hill was cited for improper lane usage.
