Betty Jane Quinn

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Betty Jane (Liska) Quinn, 81, of Paducah, Ky., formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:40 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 in Worcester, Mass., surrounded by her family.

Betty was born in Detroit, Mich. on July 21, 1930, where her father, John Liska worked for the Ford Motor Company. John Liska was born in Bohemia on Aug. 26, 1907, son of John Sr. and Josephine Visek. He grew up in Perry County, Ill., where he met and married Clara Rose Wooldridge, born on Jan. 14, 1911, daughter of Clara Maggie Seibert and Jacob Elmer Wooldridge. They married on Sept. 9, 1929 in Du Quoin. Betty was their only child.

Betty grew up on R. R. #3 in Elkville, now known as Maksin Road. She attended school in Dowell and Elkville, where she once was filmed by a Hollywood film crew doing back flips across the gymnasium floor. She worked at the dress factory in Du Quoin and was active in the Dowell Baptist Church, where she helped secure funds to build the brick church after the old one burned down. She also was a hair stylist for many years.

On Aug. 13, 1948, she married Byrl Rees and with him had two children, Sherry (Rees) Mitchell of Massachusetts and Scott Allyn Rees, who preceded her in death on July 15, 1990. She also had two step children with him, Lavern Rees of Murphysboro and Jane Gray of Jupiter, Fla. From these children, she has 12 grandchildren: Thomas Mitchell of Pennsylvania, Daniel, Nathan and Hannah Mitchell of Massachusetts and Kara Hackett of Massachusetts, Scott Rees II of Dowell, Michelle Clover of Jacob, Ill., Lonnie Sheppard, Jr. of Alabama, Bobbie Gray of Chicago, Beth Gray-Shaw of Murphysboro, Darla Branda of California and Daniel Rees of Missouri. From these grandchildren she was blessed with 27 great grandchildren.

On Sept. 23, 1969, she married Raybern Quinn of Du Quoin, born Oct. 1, 1924 in Scheller, Ill., who survives his wife. They first lived several years in Las Vegas, Nev. and then moved to Paducah, Ky., where they lived the remainder of their 42 years together before moving to her daughter&#39;s house in Massachusetts in August of 2011. She has a step daughter from this union, Monita Hutchison of Missouri and two grandchildren, Heather Keith and Dwayne Hutchison of Missouri, as well as one great grandson.

Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Friends called from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
