This conference win makes DHS 21-5 overall and 6-1 in the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division race.

DuQuoin took an early lead in the first quarter at 22-6, but Sparta rallied somewhat in the second quarter to make the half-time score 31-21.

The Bulldogs clawed to within seven at 34-27 in the third period before DHS rattled off 13 unanswered points to pull away by 20 heading to the fourth.

Rebekah Maddox had a superb night scoring 28 points. Jessica Hirsch had 17 points, Taylor King 10, and Abby Myers 2. Shelby Presley, Alexis Kohrs, Jacqueline Harsy, Cassidy Rice, Kelsey Robinson, Bailie Caldwell, Morgan Dennis, and Carissa Graham also saw action for the Indians. Sparta's Jade Vaughn scored 17 points.

Coach Shawn File was very excited about the win. "We started out really well; we jumped out to a really nice lead. Taylor King started us off real hot in the first quarter. Defensively, we did a good job on Jade Vaughn from Sparta. Jessica Hirsch did a good job defending against her. Abby Myers also came in and helped defend against her. Cassidy Rice and Alexis Kohrs did a great job on the boards tonight. These are some of the little things you don't see in the scorebook, but they are important."

"We were up ten at the half, and we lost our focus, but we came back and got the lead up to twenty. Everybody got in the game. This is our third game in four days. We will be getting ready for Carterville on Thursday."

DuQuoin's Junior Varsity also won over Sparta 37-15. The leading scorer for the Indians was Bailie Caldwell with 13 points. Carissa Graham had 10 points, Jacqueline Harsy 6, Kelsey Robinson 4, Abby Myers 2, and Amanda Atteberry 2. The JV record is 4-9 overall and 3-4 in the conference. The JV are coached by Jason James.

DuQuoin has another conference home game on Thursday evening with Carterville (6:15).
