Yellow Jackets top Elverado

Chester's boys basketball squad took to the court three times last week, resulting in two tough losses and one easy win. Tuesday night's action saw Chester to fall 64-58 to Goreville. The game was close to the very end, but Goreville managed to score six points in the final few seconds to get out of Chester with the win. Kyle Landon turned in a great performance and finished with 21 points while Caleb Arbeiter had 10, Link Cushman and Chris Schwartz scored eight apiece, Jacob Lochhead had six, Cody Mileur put in three and Matt Heberlie added two.
Friday night's game was an easy 70-44 home win over Elverado. The Yellow Jackets looked good in the opening minutes and led by as much as twelve points, but the Falcons crept back into the game and trailed by only six at halftime. But a further comeback was not to be as Chester put together their best stretch of the game to open the third period. With a combination of a few key baskets and some excellent defensive plays, Chester went on an 11-0 run to gain complete control of the contest and cruised to a victory.
Cushman led a very balanced offensive attack with 14 points while Heberlie had 13, Landon and Schwartz put in 11 each, Mileur had nine, Greg Rowold scored six and Arbeiter, Lochhead and Kramer Eggemeyer added two apiece. Schwartz and Heberlie were the leading rebounders for the Yellow Jackets.
Chester closed out their week with a 59-45 loss at Carterville on Saturday. The Lions did most of their damage in the third quarter when they outscored Chester 29-10. Landon was the leading scorer with 13 points, Schwartz had 10, Heberlie and Rowold put in six each, Arbeiter had five, Mileur scored three and Lochhead added two.
