Banks Subdivision Is a First Class Development for Du Quoin
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin Mayor John Rednour Monday night expressed his profound appreciation to the Chip Banks family for their work in creating the Banks Subdivision north of Wal-Mart, future home of the new Fresenius Dialysis Center.
Mr. Banks was in the audience as Mayor Rednour and the council accepted the plat to the new development. "The Banks family has been very good to Du Quoin and the city needs to be good to the Banks family," said Rednour as other members of the council concurred. Chip Banks and his father, Bill Banks, brought Chip Banks Chevrolet to Du Quoin, a large, beautiful car dealership that anchors business in the southtown area.
The new development will be fully detailed in the newspaper's upcoming Progress Edition magazine in March.
The subdivision is located immediately north of Walmart, divided into two commercial land tracts with a reference to Washington Plaza West. It will fully complement the growth in recent years in that area.
In other action, the city council:
Voted to name the new street west of Mc Donald's as Sunset Avenue.
The council gave final approval to a 4 percent interest loan from the Champion Communities program for $250,000 to build the new East Main Street water line.
Gave final approval to an ordinance requiring the city to fund city pensions.
Approved the emergency purchase of a replacement wastewater pump in the amount of approximately $23,000
Approved the sale of real estate on North Walnut Street.
Congratulated the Du Quoin girls basketball team for their recent successes.
