Emergency responders identified the victim as Henry Bardle, who lived at 137 Wisconsin Street.
Chief Jim Gielow said the fire department got the call a little after 8:30 p.m. and firefighters were told there may be an occupant still inside.
Chief Gielow said the man was found in a home hospital bed that had been set up in a special sleeping area of the house away from the traditional bedrooms.
He said a son and daughter-in-law had their own area in the home and occasionally checked on him and assisted him.
The fire started in or near the bed, according to the chief.
Gielow said there is nothing suspicious about the fire.
The front of the house received moderate smoke and fire damage. There is little visible structural damage to the house from the outside.
Pinckneyville firefighters, the Pinckneyille Ambulance Service and the Perry County coroner were all at the scene.
Chief Gielow said this was the second fire at the same address in a year's time. Firefighters were called to the residence a year ago for a garage fire.
