BASEBALL: Offensive outburst puts Indians in win column
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The first victory at the new baseball complex for DuQuoin High School came on Wednesday evening as the Indians pummeled the West Frankfort Redbirds 12-3 in seven innings. This was DuQuoin's first win of the season making their record 1-2. Frankfort falls to 2-4 on the season.
DuQuoin scored first getting the lead in the first inning. The big inning was the third when they scored 6 runs. DuQuoin scored three more in fourth and two in the fifth for their 12 runs. Frankfort scored 3 in the fourth inning on a home run by Josh Rich.
The winning pitcher for DuQuoin was Camdon Mercier. Mercier threw six innings allowing three runs (all earned) on 4 hits, had 8 strikeouts, and 3 walks. Coach Tim Craft thought, "Mercier did a great job giving us six strong innings today."
Camden Youngman relieved in the seventh inning pitching to 4 batters. Youngman allowed no runs, no hits, had one walk, one hit batter, and one strikeout.
The game ended on a great play by Nathan Harris at second, who doubled up a runner. The losing pitcher for Frankfort was Addison Eggertsen, who went 3 innings allowing 7 runs (4 earned), 8 hits, had 3 walks, and 1 strikeout. Hancock relieved in the fourth inning. He allowed 5 runs with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.
DuQuoin had 10 hits in the game. Lead off hitter Austin Mansker was 2-3, both doubles, and had a walk. Brenden Fred was 1-4. Nate Boss was 1-4. Camden Youngman was 1-2 with a double, 2 RBI, and two walks. Travis Chapman was 1-3, a double, and had 2 RBI. Jon Boss was 2-3 including a double, had two RBI, and a walk. Garrett Dorsey had an RBI. Jonah Spencer was 1-3. Camdon Mercier was 2-3.
DuQuoin had only one error in the game, while Frankfort had three.
Coach Craft commented, "We did a good job of getting on base, and keeping the pressure on them.. I would like to see a few more hits with runners in scoring position." Craft is assisted by David Hopkins, Cory Robbins, and Jeromie Morgan.
Friday, DuQuoin plays at home against Mt. Vernon (4:30).
