Chester Public Library celebrates National Library Week

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Chester Public Library is celebrating National Library Week by hosting many special Titanic related events the week of April 9-14.

Monday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. - Free Titanic Era Dance Instruction (all ages welcome)

Everyone is invited to participate in this Free event hosted by the Friends of the Chester Public Library at Chester Skateland. Dance instructors will demonstrate a couple Titanic era dances, and teach participants the basic steps. Bring your dancing shoes and join us for a free evening of fun. Thursday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m. - "Titanic History" (program for adults, teens and older children)

Please plan to join us for this informative program on the history of the Titanic presented by Kyle Koeneman. This program will include a PowerPoint presentation with images and information as the great ship was built, made its inaugural voyage and sank on April 15, 1912. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Chester Public Library.

Throughout the week, there will be a display of Titanic related materials from Mrs. Koeneman's collection, and Margaret Pierce's collection. Mrs. Pierce's uncle, George Patchett, sailed and perished on the Titanic. Also on display, will be Titanic books given to the Chester Public Library by the late Allan Welge, and an early 1900 collectibles display courtesy of Gail O'Connor. Mrs. O'Connor's display includes early Chester calling cards, ladies' accessories and other antiques.

Special Titanic children's programs are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the Library. A brief Titanic history program will be presented at the Chester Nutrition Site on Friday.
