BASEBALL: Indians fall 7-4 to Lions
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[DuQuoin's Brenden Fred had a superb day at the plate going 3-4, and Jonah Spencer went 2-3 at the plate, but it wasn't enough for DuQuoin Baseball to beat Carterville. DuQuoin fell to Carterville 7-4 in a home game on Thursday. DuQuoin's record moves to 4-6 overall, and 1-2 in the Conference.
Brenden Fred was the starting pitcher for DuQuoin going 4 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned), had 3 strikeouts, and 3 walks. Camdon Mercier relieved in the fifth inning, allowing 3 runs (all earned), had 6 walks, 1 strikeout, and one hit batter. Mercier was the losing pitcher.
The Indians had 8 hits in the contest. Brenden Fred was 3-4, all doubles, and an RBI. Nate Boss was 1-4 with 2 RBI. Camden Youngman was 0-3, but had a walk and a stolen base.
Travis Chapman was 1-3 with a walk, and an RBI. Camdon Mercier was 1-4. Garrett Dorsey was 1-4. Jonah Spencer (DH) was 2-3. Also in the game for the Indians was Jon Boss, and Jacob O'Rourke was the flex on defense.
Tim Craft, DHS Coach, was quite disheartened by the loss. "You cannot walk lead off hitters regularly, and expect to win the game especially in the later innings. We are still not driving runners in when they are in scoring position." Coach Craft is assisted by Jeromie Morgan, David Hopkins, and Cory Robbins.
DuQuoin will play two games on Saturday with Eldorado at home. The initial schedule had the games at Eldorado, but that has been changed. These two games will be played in DuQuoin.
