BASEBALL: Indians sweep two from Eldorado

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[It was a great day for baseball, and the DuQuoin Indians did not disappoint as they easily took two games from the Eldorado Eagles on Saturday. The first game only went 4 1/2 innings, as DuQuoin won 11-1. The Indians then took the second game 9-0 in seven innings. The Indians are now 6-6 on the season, and 1-2 in the Conference. Eldorado falls to 2-12 overall.

In game 1, Garrett Dorsey was in the winning pitcher going 5 innings. Dorsey allowed one run (earned), on 3 hits, had 3 strikeouts, and 3 walks in the game. The losing pitcher for Eldorado was Adam Collier, who pitched 3 innings allowed ten runs (9 earned), on 9 hits, had 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. Garrison Hathaway relieved and pitched one inning allowing 1 unearned run, no hits, had 1 walk, 1 strikeout, and a balk.

Eldorado scored one run in the fourth inning, when they had three hits. DuQuoin scored one run in the first inning, and had a big second inning scoring seven times. DuQuoin scored two runs in the third inning, and one in the fourth to win the game 11-1 in four and one-half innings.

Eldorado&#39;s defensive complicated their efforts withal three errors.

DuQuoin totaled 9 hits in the game. Austin Mansker had a great hitting game going 3-3, including a triple, and 3 RBI. Brenden Fred was 1-3 with a walk. Nate Boss also had a great day at the plate going 2-3, including a double, and 4 RBI. Camden Youngman was 1-3, a double, and 2 RBI. Travis Chapman had a walk, as did Camdon Mercier. Garrett Dorsey was 1-2 with an RBI. Jon Boss had a walk. Jonah Spencer was 1-2. Other Indians seeing action were Jacob Valier, Noah Campbell, Nathan Harris, John Erwin, Dalton Bigham, Jacob O&#39;Rourke, and Kody Hess.

The second game also had DuQuoin winning; this time 9-0 behind the pitching of Jon Boss. Boss pitched all seven innings allowing no runs, five hits, had 3 walks, and four strikeouts. The losing pitcher for Eldorado was Braydon Vanzandt, who went 3 2/3 innings allowing 9 runs (7 earned), 9 hits, had no walks, and 3 strikeouts. Vanzandt was relieved by Garrison Hathaway in the fourth inning. Hathaway allowed no runs on 2 hits, and had 2 strikeouts. Again, Eldorado had 3 errors, and DuQuoin none.

The Indians scored two runs in the third inning, and seven in the fourth inning for their nine runs.

Austin Mansker continued to hit the ball well in the second game going 2-4, including a triple, and had an RBI. Brenden Fred was 1-4. Nate Boss was 1-3. Camden Youngman was 1-4. Travis Chapman had a great game going 3-3 with two doubles, a triple, and 3 RBI. Camdon Mercier was 1-4. Garrett Dorsey was 1-3 with an RBI. Jonah Spencer was 1-2, with a triple, and an RBI. Other Indians in the game were A.J. Smith, Noah Campbell, Nathan Harris, Dalton Bigham, Jacob Valier, Jon Boss, Buddy Smith, John Erwin, and Jacob O&#39;Rourke.

For Eldorado, Joe Blair was 2-3. Brennan Unthank was 1-3. Devin Aldridge was 1-2. Adam Collier was 1-2 with a walk. Others in the game were Tyler Deaton, Andy Pena, Trey Sigler, Dylan Roberts, Derek Mitchell, Garrison Hathaway, and Dakota Prather.

Coach Tim Craft was smiling after these two wins. "We had great pitching performances by both pitchers--Garrett Dorsey and Jon Boss--today. Our defense made some great plays behind them. We turned at least four double plays today. Hitting wise, we really focused in practice yesterday on moving runners in situations, and doing the job at the plate. We did a good job of that today."

DuQuoin travels to Pinckneyville on Monday for a conference game. Tuesday is a conference home game with Nashville. DuQuoin takes on Zeigler-Royalton-Christopher at home on Wednesday. Friday is a conference game at home with Anna-Jonesboro.
