Chester Capture Black Diamond opener, defeat Trico 9-5 in 8 innings

The Chester Yellow Jackets open the 2012 Black Diamond Conference play with a 9-5 win over Trico in 8 innings. The Jackets are now 7-1, 1-0 in Black Diamond play.

Chester&#39;s Caleb Arbeiter led off the game with a double and scored on a RBI single by Chris Schwartz. That lead was short-lived. The host Pioneers answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run homer and a error.

Chester responded with two runs to tie the game at 3-3. A one out walk to Jake Lochhead, a fielders choice followed by a RBI single by Alec Weir plated a run. A pass ball and Caleb Arbeiter&#39;s second hit scored the tying run in then inning.

The Jackets started the fifth inning with consecutive hits by Matt Heberlie, Chris Schwartz and Boyd Miles to load up the bases. Pitcher Casey Venable helped his on cause by singling in a run and Dalton Misuraca hit a sacrifice fly to run the score to 5-3.

Trico tied the game at 5-5 with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to send the contest into extra innings.

Chester &#39;s Arbeiter walked to lead off the eighth inning. It was the fourth time Caleb reached base in the game. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Heberlie. Schwartz continued to have the hot bat scoring Arbeiter with a single. Chester was not done as Miles singled, a wild pitch and a two RBI single by Venable made the score 8-5. The Jackets Lochhead added a insurance run with a RBI hit to score Venable. The Pioneers had a hit and a walk in the bottom of the frame but a strike out and a ground out ended the threat for a final of 9-5.

Casey Venable went the distance to get the win. He had four strikeouts on the day.

Chris Schwartz finished 4-for-5 with two RBI. Venable aided himself by going 2-for-5 and knocking in two runs. Caleb Arbeiter went 2-for-3 with a double and two walks. Boyd Miles was 2-5 while Matt Heberlie, Jake Lochhead and Alec Weir had a hit.

The Jackets have a busy schedule coming up this week. The play Apr 11 at Perryville, MO at 4:30 pm, Apr 12 at the Cohen Complex against Vienna at 4:30 pm. Chester will play in the Ste Genevieve Valle Tournament on Apr 13-14. They play Valle at 3:45 pm on Apr 13, vs Steelville,MO at 6:00 pm on Apr 13.On Apr 14 vs. Jefferson R-7 at 10:00 am and Valle Catholic at 12:15pm.On Apr 16 the Jackets play Calhoun at GCS Park in Sauget, IL 6:00pm.
