SOFTBALL: Hornettes end Du Quoin's quest for perfection

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Every Indian batter struck out at least once, with the exception of Jessica Hirsch, while playing Nashville in a home softball game on Tuesday. Nashville's pitcher, Maci Ingram, struck out ten Indian batters, while only walking one. Ingram allowed no runs, and only four hits. It was a superb pitching performance that gave DuQuoin the first loss of the season at 5-0. DuQuoin's record is now 18-1 and 4-1 in the Conference. Nashville is 14-1 overall, having lost to Anna-Jonesboro on Monday. These two losses certainly make the conference race interesting as Anna-Jonesboro, DuQuoin, and Nashville all have suffered one loss.

The losing pitcher for DuQuoin was Alexis Kohrs. Her record moves to 9-1 on the season. Kohrs allowed 5 runs (3 earned), on 4 hits, had 7 walks, and 7 strikeouts.

Nashville scored one run in the second inning on an error. Nashville scored four more runs in the fifth inning, when DuQuoin committed two more errors in the inning. The three errors were very costly for DuQuoin. Nashville played perfect defense in this game.

Nashville only had four hits in the game, all singles. Combined with walks and errors, they managed to score five runs.

DuQuoin had four hits in the game. Kelsey Robinson had a double in the fourth inning going 1-3. Cassidy Rice had a single in the second inning also 1-3. Hadley Marek had a triple in the seventh inning 1-3. Magen Edwards had a single in the fifth inning 1-3.

Obviously, the Indians and Coach Jason James were disappointed. Coach James was very gracious in defeat as he complimented the Nashville Team and Pitcher. "Honestly, they outplayed us in all aspects of the game--pitching, hitting, and defense. At the plate, we swung at to many high pitches. The pitcher (Ingram) did a fantastic job. The three errors hurt us. The streak is over, and we have to come out focused. We have Anna-Jonesboro on Friday."

Coach James is assisted by Jacob Emling and Lonnie James.

DuQuoin plays at home on Friday with Anna-Jonesboro, which is a conference game. DuQuoin beat A-J at Anna last week. This will be a very important game for the Indians.
