SOFTBALL: Lady Falcons cough up lead at Trico

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Leading 4-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Falcons allowed Tuesday's game at Trico to slip away as the Lady Pioneers scored four times in the fifth and went on to win 5-4.

Elverado made four errors during the bottom of the fifth to allow Trico's three base hits off of Corrine Wilson to do even more damage.

"We gave this one away in the fifth inning," said Lady Falcons' head coach Donette Wheatley. "We played stellar ball up until then, and then we had four errors, couldn't field a bunt, and they stole home for the winning run."

"You can not let up for one second in high school ball. We are young and have to learn from these mistakes and not let them happen again."

Before the disastrous fifth inning, Elverado had jumped out in front on an RBI by Paige Newfarmer in the first that brought in Alicen Torres who had doubled. Torres ended up a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Falcons on offense.

EHS tacked on two more in the second when Torres singled in Kelsey Leland and Meghan Trammel, and Torres scored in the top of the fifth on an RBI by Wilson.

Torres (4-4, 2 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI), Trammel (1-4, R) and Wilson (1-3, RBI) accounted for the Lady Falcons' six hits.

Elverado (7-2, 1-1) is at Mt. Vernon on Wednesday and back home on Thursday to host Johnston City.

The Lady Falcons then host the Elverado Invitational Tournament this Saturday at Elkville Park where they meet Dongola at 10:00 a.m. and Hamilton County at 1:00 p.m. The Championship game of the six-team event will take place at 3:00 p.m.
