SOFTBALL: Johnston City holds off Elverado
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Lady Falcons got off to a spectacular start on offense, but couldn't keep their momentum going in a 8-3 home loss to Johnston City on Thursday afternoon.
Elverado picked up three runs in the bottom of the first on four hits and three errors after the Lady Indians had tagged Corrine Wilson for two runs on three hits in the top half of the inning.
Johnston City starter Danielle Roach settled down after that, however, and cruised through the next six innings scoreless to pick up the victory. Wilson allowed nine hits and a walk while striking out three in her third straight day of work in the circle.
Jessa Thomas (3-4, 2 2B, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI) and C.C. Hutchinson (2-3, BB, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI) both went deep for Johnston City.
EHS has Friday off before hosting the Elverado Invitational Tournament on Saturday at Elkville Park. The Lady Falcons (7-4, 1-2) meet Dongola at 10:00 a.m. in Pool A, then return at 1:00 to face Hamilton County. Pool B consists of Goreville, Egyptian and Woodlawn. The winner of each pool will meet in the 3:00 p.m. championship.
