SOFTBALL: Kohrs leads Du Quoin to 10-0 win over Pinckneyville
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Not only did Alexis Kohrs pitch DuQuoin to a 10-0 win over Pinckneyville on Thursday evening, but she also went 4-4 at the plate, including a Home Run. DuQuoin notched victory number 22 with one loss--a new school record for wins at DHS. DuQuoin is 7-1 in the Conference race.
Kohrs went six innings for the Indians, pitching a shut out, only allowed 3 hits, had no walks and 8 strikeouts. Her record is now 11-1. The losing pitcher for Pinckneyville was Taylor Howard. Howard went all 6 innings, allowing ten runs (7 earned), 13 hits, had one strikeout, one wild pitch, and one hit batter.
Pinckneyville's three hits were by Jordyn Wieland, Shersty Stanton, and Taylor Howard. Pinckneyville had 3 errors, and DuQuoin two errors in the game.
Pinckneyville Coach, Mike Cheek commented, "I thought Kohrs pitched very well today. She threw the ball hard, and hit her spots. DuQuoin played good defense behind her. We did a good job of putting the ball in play. We need to make more consistent plays, and hustle plays."
DuQuoin scored 3 runs in the first inning, one in the third inning, two in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two in the sixth inning to take the win.
DuQuoin totaled 13 hits in the game. Jessica Hirsch was 1-3, with a triple, a sacrifice fly, and 2 RBI. Aubrey Davis was 2-4 with an RBI. Kelsey Robinson was 1-4 with a triple. Cassidy Rice had an RBI. Alexis Kohrs was perfect at the plate going 4-4 with a Home Run, and two RBI. Courtesy runner, Abby Myers, scored twice and had two stolen bases. Hadley Marek was 1-4 with an RBI. Magen Edwards was 2-4, including a double, and an RBI. Amanda Williams was 1-3. Katrina Whitley was 1-3. Every Indian player contributed to the offense in some way.
Coach Jason James thought, "Again, pitching was fabulous by Kohrs! We made the plays behind her when people got on. I was pleased with the adjustments we made at the plate. I think the girls are really relaxed, and enjoying the game. Hopefully, we can keep that mentality the rest of the season."
DuQuoin travels to O'Fallon for a tournament on Friday and Saturday, and will play Mt. Vernon, Highland, and St. Ignatius (Chicago area). Teams will then play on Saturday afternoon in a first place game, third place, fifth place, or seventh place game depending on their record in pool play.
