BASEBALL: Indians fall in nine at Nashville
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The DuQuoin Indian Baseball Team made a valiant effort against Nashville on Monday evening, but lost the game 4-3 in nine innings. A throwing error in the bottom of the ninth inning resulted in the loss. The Indians are now 12-10 overall and 4-5 in the Conference.
The Indians were down 3-0 to Nashville in the sixth inning. Camden Youngman walked; Travis Chapman singled. DuQuoin runners on first and third, when Garrett Dorsey hit a ground ball to first base for a fielder's choice. Youngman scored. A Nashville error, put runners on first and second. Jon Boss tripled off the right field fence to score pinch runners Jon Erwin and Nathan Harris.
Nashville scored one run in the first inning, one in the second inning, one run in the fifth inning, and one run in the ninth inning to win the game 4-3.
The losing pitcher for DuQuoin was Brenden Fred. Fred pitched all nine innings allowing four runs (3 earned), on 8 hits, had 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
DuQuoin had 5 hits in the game. Austin Mansker was 1-4. Nate Boss was 1-4. Travis Chapman was 2-4. Garrett Dorsey had an RBI. Jon Boss was 1-2 with a triple, and 2 RBI.
Coach Tim Craft was obviously disappointed, but very complimentary on how the Indians played. "The kids did a good job of battling back being down 3-0. We had some opportunities early to score, but did not take advantage of them. It was a bad ending--on an error. Brenden Fred started off slow on the mound, but did a great job the last six innings, shutting down Nashville." Coach Craft is assisted by David Hopkins and Cory Robbins.
The DuQuoin Jr. Varsity won their game 8-7 over Nashville. They are coached by Jeromie Morgan.
Wednesday DuQuoin plays at home against Benton. Thursday, DuQuoin travels to Waltonville. Anna-Jonesboro is scheduled to come to DuQuoin on Friday. This is the last Conference game for the season.
