Lydia May Bird
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Lydia May Bird, age 84, of Pinckneyville, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 4:50 p.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, Ill.
Lydia was born on Oct. 29, 1927, in Winkle, Ill., a daughter to Albert and Lora (Davis) Wright. On Nov. 30, 1947, she married Jackie Wayne Bird in Pinckneyville, Ill. and he preceded her in death on June 29, 1996. Lydia was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. and WINGS: Women in God's Services. She worked as a seamstress at the Pinckneyville Garment Factory, was a press operator for Decca Records, was a cook for Lake Sallateeska, Luke's Café and Pinckneyville Community Hospital and was a caregiver for the elderly. Lydia enjoyed listening to music, especially gospel, sewing and was a wonderful cook, with some of her tastiest being her chicken and dumplings and homemade pies.
Lydia is survived by a son, Danny Ray Bird of Newell, W.V., four daughters, Carol Elaine Czmyrid (Tim Harner) of Carbondale, Ill., Cindy Jane (Louis) Steinkamp of Okawville, Ill., Terry Lynn Kelly of Pinckneyville, Ill., and Lisa Diane (Bill) Wells of Steeleville, Ill.; one sister, Ethel McCune of Nashville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Sara Steinkamp, Adam (Sarah) Steinkamp, Jeramy (Angie) Kelly, Jaci Kelly, Joshua (Wendy) Bird, Micah Bird, Kaitlyn (Josh) Sledge, Ben Bird, Rob Wells, and Tom Wells; 11 great-grandchildren, DeAnna (Kyle) Valentine, Samantha McDonald, Eli, Devon, Tyson and Sophia Kelly, Madison Middleton, China Sikic,, Gideon and Grady Sledge, and Emilee Little (Wells); one great-great grandchild, Hazel Marie Valentine and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Nick Wells and 14 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment was in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill.
Friends called at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Monday, 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or Oak Grove Baptist Church.
