BASEBALL: Jr. #1's storm back to beat Sparta
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pinckneyville-Du Quoin's Junior American Legion team No. 1 held on for a 6-4 win over Sparta on Wednesday night in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader at Rigdon Field in the Perry County Fairgrounds.
Trailing 3-0, Posts 2504 & 647 got two runs back in the fourth, one on an RBI groundout by Adam Banach.
Pinckneyville-Du Quoin then took command in the fifth with four straight hits from the top of the order. Justyn Rushing singled with one out, as did Brayden Cowley and Nolan Luke. Brenden Shepard followed with a double, and 2504/647 led 5-3.
Caleb Dahn handled the pitching duties for Pinckneyville-Du Quoin, allowing four hits and two walks in seven innings on the hill. Dahn fanned eleven Sparta hitters, striking out the side twice.
Rushing (2-4) and Luke (2-4, 3B) both had two hits. Cowley (1-4), Shepard (1-2, HBP), Dahn (1-2, SAC) and Cole Bigham (1-2, BB) also hit safely for 2504/647.
The No. 1 Junior team returns to action on Monday at Murphysboro.
