Post 127 built a 7-0 after four innings in game one, plating two in the first, two in the third and three more in the fourth before Pinckneyville-Du Quoin was able to break through offensively in the bottom of the fifth. C.J. Opp reached on an error and would score on a double by Adam Barczewski for 2504/647's first run.
Still trailing by six, Pinckneyville-Du Quoin made a game out of it in their final at-bat in the seventh. Opp led off with a walk in front of hits by Travis Chapman, Barczewski, Bryant Shute and Brandon George that made it a 7-6 ball game with one out in the inning, but the rally was ended after a pop-out to first base and another to right field.
Barczewski (2-4), Shute (1-4), George (1-2, 2 HBP) and Chapman (1-3) had hits for 2504/647. Opp (0-2, BB) was hitless, but scored both times he got on base in game one.
While Pinckneyville-Du Quoin's offense went cold, Murphsyboro's caught fire after the break between games. Post 127 led 4-0 after the top of the second and was never threatened.
P-DQ registered just four hits as a team in the second game, one each from Shute (1-3), Brett Warchol (1-2), Kyle Mueller (1-3) and Nate Boss (1-3), who drove in the only run for 2504/647 in the fourth inning.
Pinckneyville-Du Quoin's senior squad is at Herrin on Wednesday before hosting Steeleville on Thursday.
