BASEBALL: P-DQ Senior Legion squeaks by Steeleville
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Pinckneyville-Du Quoin Senior American Legion team swept a doubleheader from Steeleville on Thursday, getting two home runs from Kyle Mueller in a 6-4 game one win before staging a dramatic seventh-inning comeback to win game two 8-7.
Posts 2504 & 647 had just six hits in the opener, Mueller's two homers, a second inning single by Travis Chapman (1-2, BB), and three hits from C.J. Opp (3-3, 2 2B).
The offense provided just enough for starter Brett Warchol, who went the distance and allowed four runs on eight hits and a hit batsman. Warchol struck out seven men in the game and had at least one strikeout in each inning until the seventh.
While the result of game two meant nothing in terms of postseason seeding, it may have provided more entertainment than the first. Pinckneyville-Du Quoin used primary catchers Adam Barczewski and Travis Chapman on the other end of the battery with Barczewski tossing five innings before Chapman came on in the sixth to finish up.
Steeleville had eight hits and three walks off Barczewski, who struck out four and exited the game trailing 6-4. Chapman allowed an unearned run in the sixth to make it 7-4, but would have his chance at the plate in the seventh.
Marian Brammeier led off the final at-bat for P-DQ with a solo shot, then Zach Phillips singled. With two down, Kegan Robbins drove in a run with a base hit, then Mueller walked. After fanning in his first three plate appearances of the game, Chapman drilled a double to bring in two runs and win the game in walk-off fashion, which also gave him the pitching victory.
Phillips was 3-for-3, all singles, to lead 2504/647 at the plate. Brammeier (2-3, 2B, HR), Barczewski (1-3), Shute (1-4), Robbins (1-3, BB), Chapman (1-4, 2B) and Chaz Ruffino (1-2) also hit safely in the second game against Steeleville.
Pinckneyville-Du Quoin's next Senior Legion contest is Monday at Chester.
