BASEBALL: Murphysboro mauls P-DQ Jr. #2

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Murphysboro dominated a pair of Junior American Legion baseball contests at Pinckneyville on Monday night, sweeping Posts 2504 & 647&#39;s #2 team 12-0 and 6-0 in two five-inning games.

The 2&#39;s struggled offensively against the older Murphy bunch, managing just three hits on the evening.

Braden Kitowski (1-3) and Dalton Gant (1-2) had 2504/647&#39;s only base hits in game one.

The P-DQ Junior #2&#39;s didn&#39;t fare better in game two, registering just one hit (Jacob Louis).

Pinckneyville-Du Quoin&#39;s #1 and #2 Junior teams face off on Wednesday at Rigdon Field.

<u>Jr. #1 beats Sun Dawgs, Bluford</u>

On Sunday, the Pinckneyville-Du Quoin #1 Junior Legion squad picked up a 7-3 win over the S.I. Sun Dawgs and a 6-0 triumph over Bluford.

Three consecutive RBI singles from Brian Taylor, A.J. Smith and Joey Burris off of Sun Dawgs&#39; starter Eli Fennell capped a five-run second inning for P-DQ in game one.

Burris finished 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the offense for Junior team #1. Taylor (1-3, RBI), Smith (1-3, RBI), Brayden Cowley (2-3, RBI), Dalton Bigham (2-3), Kody Hess (1-3, RBI) and Adam Banach (1-3) also had hits against the Sun Dawgs.

Smith toed the rubber for all seven innings, allowing one earned run on six hits and five walks with four strikeouts.

Against Bluford, Luke Chapman tossed a shutout on the hill, giving up four hits and a walk with six punch-outs.

Six Pinckneyville-Du Quoin players hit safely in the game; Cowley (2-3), Hess (2-2, RBI), Banach (1-3, RBI), Smith (1-3), Dalton Bigham (1-1, 2 BB, RBI) and Brendon Shepard (1-2, 2B, BB, RBI).

After facing the P-DQ #2 team on Wednesday, the #1&#39;s host Orient on Thursday.
