Green begins work as Superintendent in the Millstadt Elementary School District on July 1.

Green said he will be around to help with construction of the new school if he is needed. The construction is going well and all is on schedule.

Crews have hauled in dirt to fill the hole where the basement of the old school was and will continue brick work on the east side next week.

The punch-out list for the academic wing is set to begin on July 18. Terrazzo tile will be installed in the cafetorium beginning July 2 with the punch-out list for that area to begin in five weeks. Punch-out on the renovations to Thomas Gymnasium will begin the third week of August.

Green said the district will begin moving furniture into the new school on Aug. 1. The 2012- 2013 school year begins Sept. 4.

In other business, the board:

Over the past several years, the district has lost nearly $700,000 in funding between declining enrollment and cuts from the state.

were notified that Band Director Stephen Cannedy's will retire in 2016.

were asked by Tri-County Special Education to host a Cooperative Reach Program to serve high school students who do not qualify for Special Education, but who are not well-served by the standard curriculum. A middle school Reach Program was started last year with great success. The board is interested, but needs to do additional research before agreeing.
