BASEBALL: West side is the best side in SIBCA All-Star Games

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Ballpark at Du Quoin High School played host this past Saturday to the 16th Annual SIBCA All-Star Games where the West seniors topped the East 12-1 behind a combined four-hitter from seven different pitchers.

The West side also came out victorious in the junior and sophomore game winning 5-4.

Several award-winners for the 2012 baseball season were also named during Saturday's events including Coach of the Year honors for Anna-Jonesboro's Jake Alley (2A) and Shawnee's Chad Pitts (1A) and the Friend of Baseball award for Cobden's Blayne Smith.

The SIBCA also named The Ballpark at DHS their 2012 Facility of the Year.

Pinckneyville pitchers C.J. Opp and Evan Chapman both tossed scoreless innings for the West in the senior game which was highlighted by Carterville's Daniel Allen and his 2-for-2, 4-RBI performance. Trico's Dylan Witthoft added the game's only home run, a solo shot to right in the fourth inning.

Other local representatives in the game for the West included Panthers Hunter Queen and Bryant Shute, Du Quoin's Kegan Robbins, and Elverado's Bryce Mathis.

The West led the junior-sophomore game 5-0 before fighting off a late charge from the East.

Pinckneyville's Joey Burris closed out the game for the West by striking out the side in the seventh. Elverado's Eli Fennell also tossed a scoreless inning for the winning team.

Indians Brenden Fred, Travis Chapman, Austin Mansker, Nate Boss and Camden Youngman were also part of the West's roster, along with Pinckneyville's Dylan Hardin.
