SWIMMING: Indians tame Tigersharks 422-283
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Swimming Indians piled 422 points on Herrin at Tuesday night's swim meet at the Du Quoin Municipal Pool, winning the event 422-283 and setting or improving upon four team records.
Leading the way for Du Quoin with victories in three individual races as well as two relay events were girls Lauren Heape (7-8), Olivia Cravens (11-12), and Haley Kuhnert (13-14) along with James Cravens (7-8) and Caleb Gomes (13-14) on the boys' side.
Olivia Cravens was also part of two record-breaking performances on Tuesday, trimming 0.3 off of her 50m freestyle mark (30.10) and helping set the girls 11-12 200m medley relay record (2:36.07) along with Rachel Gomes, Matilyn Harsy and Alexandria Gossman. The relay record had stood since 1998 (2:39.35; Fager, Brock, Dettmen, Taylor).
Two other Du Quoin records also fell on Tuesday evening. The girls' 9-10 100m medley team of Amelia McLain, Madilyn McLain, Lauren Cravens and Elizabeth Bird improved their team-best time to 1:18.70 and the boys 15-18 200m medley squad consisting of Trevor Jones, Jerry Kuhnert, Cody Bailey and Caseton Luthy finished in 2:04.81 to erase a 2010 mark of 2:05.95 by Luthy, Kuhnert, John Galik and Justin Zuck.
Six other Swimming Indians won two solo races and two relays against Herrin: Amelia McLain (girls 9-10), Alexandria Gossman (girls 11-12), Quinn Kirkpatrick (girls 13-14), Nicholas King (boys 13-14), Trevor Jones (boys 15-18) and Jerry Kuhnert (boys 15-18).
The Indians head to Marion this Saturday for an Invitational.
