BASEBALL: Tigers win big behind Howard's 4-for-4
Alex Howard went 4-for-4 and scored four times while teammate Corey Dahn drove in three runs as Pinckneyville District #204's boys baseball team whipped Coulterville on Tuesday, 16-6 in six innings.
Back-to-back singles to start the game allowed Coulterville to grab an early 1-0 lead, but the Tigers would respond with a crooked number in the bottom of the frame.
Kyle Kreger and Dustin Engelhardt both walked to start the inning, then Howard drove in Kreger with a base hit. Dahn followed with a 2-RBI single and Pinckneyville led 4-1 on their way to a six-run first. Grayson Buza and Kreger both added hits as #204 sent eleven batters to the dish.
After Coulterville got a run back in the second, the Tigers kept adding on. Howard singled and scored in the bottom of the second, then tripled during a three-run third for #204. Rusty Wynn also hit safely in the third, after which Pinckneyville held a 10-2 advantage.
Coulterville would rally back in the fourth with four, but the TIgers proved to be too much, tacking on three in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth. Dahn's walk-off RBI brought in Howard for the ten run difference-maker.
Howard (4-4, 3B, BB, 4 R, 2 RBI), Dahn (2-4, BB, R, 3 RBI), Kreger (1-3, 2 BB, 3 R), Engelhardt (1-3, 2 BB, 3 R), Wynn (1-2, 2 BB, R), Buza (1-4, R) and Luke Zelasko (1-4, R, RBI) accounted for #204's eleven hits. Garrett Williams (0-2, 2 BB, 2 R) was on base twice with walks and scored a pair of runs.
The Tigers are at home again on Wednesday against Giant City with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
