BASEBALL: St. Bruno-Tamaroa defeats Elverado 9-4

DOWELL, IL - St. Bruno-Tamaroa jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning on a two-run homer by Tyler Rulevish and went on to beat Elverado 9-4 in middle school baseball action on Thursday afternoon in Dowell.

SB-T's Bradley Kurtz got the win in the battle of the Falcons, going five innings and allowing two runs on six hits.

Daniel Huggins and Logan Linder led off the top of the second inning with singles off Elverado starter Logan Cavitt, then Kurtz, Rulevish and Evan Williams strung together three two-out hits as St. Bruno-Tamaroa tacked on three more runs.

Noah Barnes got Elverado on the board in the third with a solo home run, but SB-T responded by getting the run back in the top of the fourth when Tyler Restoff singled and scored.

Rulevish would receive an intentional walk in the fourth, then was pitched around in the sixth but ended up scoring one of SB-T's three runs in the inning. Restoff and Kyle Luke had hits during the late-inning rally that made it 9-2.

Clayton Funk and Cavitt both walked and scored in the bottom of the sixth for Elverado, and after Chase Coffel drew a walk from Evan Williams, Rulevish came in to close the door for St. Bruno-Tamaroa.

The big right-hander fanned all three batters he faced in addition to finishing 2-for-2 with a homer and a pair of walks at the plate.

Kurtz (2-4), Restoff (2-4), Luke (1-4), Williams (1-3, BB), Huggins (1-4), Lindner (1-2), Lane Lovel (1-4) and Ike Hardin (1-3, 2B, HBP) also had hits for SB-T.

Funk led Elverado with his 2-for-2 effort, also drawing a walk. Barnes (1-4, HR), Cavitt (1-2), Sidney Macke (1-3) and Clayton Berger (1-2) had the other hits for the Falcons in blue.

St. Bruno Tamaroa (5-4) hosts Sesser in Pinckneyville on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in their next game.
