BASEBALL: DMS crushes Chester 12-2

DU QUOIN, IL - It only took five innings for the DuQuoin Middle School Baseball Team to add another victory to their record. DMS demolished Chester 12-2 on Monday evening in a home event. The Warriors are now 5-2 on the season.

Coach Tim Craft threw three different pitchers in the game. Braden Lee started and went three innings. Lee allowed no runs, no hits, had 5 strikeouts, and no walks in his three innings. Caleb Vogel pitched the fourth inning allowing two runs (earned) on two hits, had 2 strikeouts, and 2 walks. Bryzn Witcher pitched the fifth inning allowing no runs on one hit, with one strikeout, and one walk. Lee was the winning pitcher making his record 3-0.

The losing pitcher for Chester was Meyer, who went 2 2/3 innings before being relieved by White. Meyer gave up ten runs (5 earned) on 7 hits, had 3 walks, 1 strikeout, six wild pitches, and two hit batters. White went 2 1/3 innings allowing two runs (earned) on three hits, had one walk, one strikeout. and one hit batter.

The Warriors played perfect defense committing no errors, while Chester had five errors.

DuQuoin had eleven hits in the game. Hank Stewart was 1-2 with an RBI, Caleb Vogel was 2-3, Braden Lee was 1-2 (a triple) with an RBI, Tevin Lee was 2-3 with 2 RBI, Jordan Edwards was 1-2, Logan Morgan was 1-1 with an RBI, Cameron Spiller was 1-2, Braden Heape was 1-2, and Luke Metten was 1-2.

Others in the game were: Josh Heape, Klayton Donoghue, Will Woodside, Charley Mercier, Carson Davis, Ryan Myers, and Ashton Smith.

Coach Craft thought, "the kids did a good job of being patient at the plate. I thought our pitching was good--all three pitchers did well. We had some guys that usually don't get to play come in off the bench, and give us some good at bats, and make a couple of good plays in the field."

Coach Craft is assisted by Jeromie Morgan, David Hopkins, Cory Robbins, and Roger Craft.

The Warriors are at home again on Tuesday with Trico. Wednesday they travel to Pinckneyville and on Thursday another trip, this time to Nashville.
