GOLF: McDaniel, Lady Panthers stay hot
ANNA, IL - Heather McDaniel won her ninth medalist award of the 2012 girls golf season and the Lady Panthers knocked off Anna-Jonesboro on Wednesday, out-pacing the Lady Wildcats 185-218 at Union County Country Club.
McDaniel finished at one-over par (37) to win the even by nine strokes. Teammates Sarah Carlson (46), Britney Thomas (51) and Ellie Carlson (51) were also in Pinckneyville's top four, and Alexis Anderson (52) and Olivia Mathis (55) also posted scores for the Lady Panthers.
The win was the second in as many days for the Lady Panthers, and McDaniel, as PCHS knocked off Centralia 194-198 at Red Hawk Golf Club on Tuesday.
McDaniel's 37 (+1) along with Mathis's 45, and 56's from S. Carlson and Thomas rounded out the scoring for Pinckneyville. Anderson (62) and E. Carlson (60) played, but did not make the top four.
The victory improved PCHS's record to 25-9 in girls varsity golf matches this season.
Pinckneyville's boys also picked up a win on Wednesday, edging out A-J for second place behind event-winner Chester, also at Union County C.C.
Jordan Grissom (44), Kyle Brocaille (47), Lee Wittenauer (49) and Alec Brand (49) completed the Panthers' total of 189. Will Travis (52) and Drew Lipe (56) also took part for PCHS.
Chester shot 186 for a three-stroke victory, A-J was a shot behind the Panthers at 190.
Pinckneyville's boys are back in action on Friday at Red Hawk along with Chester, Du Quoin and Anna-Jonesboro.
