VOLLEYBALL: Herrin holds off Lady Panthers in three

PINCKNEYVILLE, IL - Pinckneyville took the middle set from Herrin, but couldn't stop the Lady Tigers from escaping PCHS with a 25-20, 22-25, 25-21 win on Monday night.

The Lady Panthers lost despite playing well at the net with a team total of 30 kills and 12 blocks.

Haley Simpson led the offense with 10 kills, adding a block, an ace and a dig. Katelyn Mayer was right behind with 9 kills, 2 aces and a dig.

Danielle Bruns finished with a team-high 5 blocks, 5 kills, 2 aces and 2 digs. Bailey Nippe had 4.5 blocks and a pair of kills, also setting up teammates with 6 assist. Kristen Ginn led PCHS in assists with 10, Denise Bruns led digs with 6.

The Lady Panthers host perennial Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division volleyball powerhouse Nashville on Tuesday at PCHS. On Thursday, Pinckneyville travels to Du Quoin to face the Lady Indians on Brain Cancer Awareness night. All proceeds from the night will go to Anna Maddox of Du Quoin.
