Green's Market Road Home Damaged by Fire
A fire of undetermined origin that began in the garage heavily damaged a one-story home on Green's Market Road Tuesday evening. Firemen say an unidentified passerby saw the fire from the road and got out of the vehicle and went up to the home to alert owner Alice Holloman, who was not injured, but was taken to Marshall Browning Hospital for overnight observation and evaluation. Du Quoin firemen got the call at 8:23 p.m.and were assisted by Dowell firemen who brought a pumper to the scene.
Tamaroa firemen assisted with a pumper and a water tanker. The Pinckneyville Fire Department came to Du Quoin to staff the station. Du Quoin fire department spokesman John VanVoorhis said the fire moved from the garage across the attic to the next door room and kitchen. Firemen stopped it there. While the home sustained heavy damage it is not believed to be a total loss. Du Quoin police provided traffic control.Firemen were back at the Du Quoin station at 1:16 a.m.
