Pinckneyville Relinquishes Claim to Ditch in Oxbow Subdivision

The City Council passed a resolution with a 4-1 vote to release any evidence of ownership in Westridge and Oxbow subdivisions waterway drainage ditch which residents had asked the city to maintain. Commission Leonard Heisner was

The drainage ditch will revert to common property. It will be up to the residents of the area to maintain it.

John Carney said a quitclaim deed had given the property to the city in 1988, but the city never maintained it. He was not happy with the city's decision to relinquish their rights to the property, saying it was dishonest.

Carney approached the city about maintenance issues with the ditch in August. Commissioner Sam Fulk said at that time that the city needed to divest itself of all residential property.

In other business, the council:

• approved a rental service agreement with Cintas for rugs and mops at City Hall at a cost of $119 per month for 36 months. Commissioner Heisner said the new contract will save approximately $130 per month.

• passed a resolution awarding the painting contract for City Hall to low-bidder Graham Painting. Graham's bid was $7,814.

• approved an EPA permit application to install 984 feet of water line to Lakewood Subdivision at the owner's expense. The property is owned by Jimmie Wright.
